How to be a Helper

I have learned that our greatest blessings come when we are able to improve the lives of others.

-- Jimmy Carter

If the past couple of weeks are any indication, we are all going to need to band together over the next few years.  Please are going to need help, honestly people need help NOW.  Let's become helpers.  Consider the information below a resource whether you need help or you want to help.

Research these things so that you can become a source that people are comfortable speaking with.

Start a note in your phone or a google doc with the information so that you can speak with confidence and help people when you can.

General Resources

My local library has a listing in calls People in Need.  It has everything from mental health resources to information to find help with seniors, I high recommend seeing if your library has something similar.

The local government page of your county will resources available from the county itself as well as a listing of resources within the county.

Prescription Drugs

Shop around.

Walmart has prices staring at $4 for a 30-day supply and $10 for 90-day.
Check their website for a list of drugs included.

Cost Plus Drugs is worth a look, seems like their partner with pharmacies, and might be worth a look.

GoodRx offers coupons that you can reem at the pharmacies.  It might be worth checking before you refill.

Food

Food pantries are going to be come essential within the next 6 months.  We the cost of groceries going up, it's always better to write them a check instead of giving them donations of goods, but they will take those as well.  An internet search on 'food pantries near me' will give you a list.  Typically within each larger area there is a large food pantry that distributes through smaller ones.  I would recommend donating to the large one, they will have the contacts and resources to make your dollar go further.

Shelters

I have a nagging feeling that these are going to be busy (busier) in the coming months and years.  Getting the information on local shelters is just an internet search away.  These will be places that you can donate clothing, bedding, personal use (razers, tampons, diapers) and they also will take a check.

Pets

There is no shame in needing help with pet.  Pets are family members and where likely acquired when the cost of caring for them was not a concern. Your local animal shelter might be about to help out with food, and your local county can assist with the low-cost vaccines.

Become a resource to your family, friends and the random people you talk to a the store!
